Introduction to Simaris design
With the software tool Simaris design electrical power distribution can be planned easily, quickly, and safely. The versions 6 offers electrical planners, installers, and control cabinet manufacturers even more functionality and provides improved support throughout the project cycle, from planning and configuration to installation and documentation of the systems.
Due to ever higher requirements for the equipping of nonresidential and industrial buildings as well increased expectations regarding the safety of the systems and the system documentation, electrical power distribution planning is becoming ever more costly and complex. The Simaris software tools, by professionals for professionals, provide support for the planning of power distribution systems in buildings.
Thanks to a clearly arranged user interface and intuitive functions, the tool can be easily operated.
Dimensioning with Simaris design
With the new version 6, Simaris design offers even more functionality.
For example, the planner can use Simaris design to carry out a system calculation based on the specifications found in the project requirements and use that to dimension the equipment according to accepted engineering practice and applicable standards (VDE, IEC), from the medium-voltage infeed to the connected devices.
Simaris design provides support for the calculation of short-circuit currents, load fl ow and distribution, voltage drops, and energy balance. Simaris design is also helpful in the selection of the equipment that is actually required (e.g., medium-voltage switchgear and protective devices, transformers, generators, and low-voltage switchgear and protective devices), as well as for conductor dimensioning (i.e., for the dimensioning of cables, conductors, and bus bars).
Another new feature is the possibility of integrating lightning and overvoltage protection into the dimensioning.
In this way the required devices are automatically taken into account in the planning phase. The system to be planned can be quickly, easily, and clearly arranged graphically using elements from the library. The planner then sets the required operating modes for the project. This determination can be more or less complex, depending on the size of the project as well as the type and number of the feeds and couplings to be used. It is easy to make this determination with Simaris design, since the appropriate devices and the required switch states for the respective operating modes are shown graphically in a clear manner.
The dimensioning of the entire system or of subsystems is carried out automatically according to the specification of the desired dimensioning objective of selectivity or backup protection and can be documented with a wide variety of output variants. With the output of various system parameters, extensive documentation of the calculation results can also be generated. With the professional version of the software, a selectivity inspection of the complete system can be carried out in addition to other calculation features.
In order to further increase planning efficiency, the new tool version allows modules, devices, and systems that are frequently used to be saved as favorites in order to be reused later in similar projects. In addition, the option now exists to perform online updates of Simaris design. This allows the product spectrum used for planning to be updated and synchronized and the functionality to be enhanced at frequent intervals.
