Course Description
This course provides a knowledge in medium voltage infrastructure and power distribution. The course covers everything about distribution systems design including MV structure, MV distributor, MV switchgear and MV/LV substation according to NEC. You will acquire the knowledge in voltage control by injecting reactive power into the system and improving the voltage drop. Practicing examples are included.
The course consists in 10 sections and 42 lessons in total duration of 7 hours 9 minutes.
Next section is dedicated to Ring Main Unit (RMU) and MV Switchgear, their specifications and components sizing. We’ll explain the difference between Half distributor and Full distributor.
You will learn how burden impacts the accuracy of the current transformer, and why it’s important for overcurrent, distance and other relay settings. Afterall, selecting the correct current and potential transformers is something you must fully understand in order to start with setting the protection system.
We shall examine distance, differential and overcurrent relay tripping and tripping units in extensive detail.
Housing of RMU, MV switchgear, and transformer is very important, so in the next section we will talk about requirements and sizing of substation room according to NEC.
Understanding voltage control concept is crucial for every power engineer. In this section we will discuss excitation system, automatic voltage regulation and voltage control/reactive power control .
Next section is dedicated to power cables in distribution substations. We’ll talk about contruction and sizing of cables, and take several exercises of 11kV, 22kV and 13.8kV cables.
FInally, in the last Section, you will learn the Load Flow principle operation and manual calculation for load flow using gauss-seidel Method and using ETAP. We’ll take several exercises to fully understand this very important topic.
