Course Description

This course provides everything about distribution systems design needed for electrical engineering beginners. It comprises lighting design, wiring of electrical components, circuit breaker selection, selectivity and cascading, distribution transformers, power cables, short circuit analysis and voltage drop calculations, power factor, etc.

The course consist of 13 sections and 54 lessons in total duration of 11h 15min.

The course starts with introduction to the power system and load estimation. Then we’ll discuss about lighting and lighting distribution design, and we will work on drawings using Dialux and AutoCAD. Sockets types, distribution and panel schedule are reviewed in detail in the next section.

The course continues with tripping curves and construction of a circuit breaker, its parameters selection according to IEC/NEC. We will practice the Motor Protection selection using manual calculations and TeSys Control and Protection Components. You will learn how to calculate starting motor current according to NEMA code. Everything is explained according to both IEC and NEC standards.

The course tackles underground cables, their construction, sizing and selection, as well as distribution transformers.

The next section is dedicated to short circuit calculations and examples. You will learn how to calculate SC through two examples.

The course continues with calculations of power factor, voltage drop and voltage control and its relation to reactive power control. Voltage control by injecting reactive power into the system and improving the voltage drop is privided by an example.

Calculations are performed in AUTOCAD, DIALUX, EXCEL, and ETAP,

What you will learn:

  1. Selectivity and Cascading with multiple examples.
  2. Motor Protection selection using manual calculations and TeSys Control and Protection Components.
